I must admit I can’t recall a horror film recently where a bowling alley has been the setting.
Maybe that’s on me for not checking out Sorority Girls in the Slimeball Bowl-o-Rama 2, recently released by Troma.
Anyways, I am getting sidetracked, indie horror director Dima Barch is back with more queer carnage with his latest short The Power of the Strike.
Much like Barch’s previous short Dead End, this is embued with a punk rock, anything goes spirit.
We find twenty-something Alexander, who wakes up in an abandoned bowling alley, with an electric collar around his neck. Quickly this becomes a queer Saw set in an abandoned bowling alley. He is given four bullets to get even with someone who committed a sexual assault on him previously.
The goading over the tannoy is only accentuated by the pulsy synth music and if he misses he gets a shock of his own.
The Power of the Strike is dark, vicious and carries a few surprises which make Barch a filmmaker to watch.
The Power of the Strike screens as part of Soho Horror Film Festival 2023.
