Thanks in large to Pennywise the Dancing Clown from IT, the clown has lurched its way back into the popular horror zeitgeist over the past few years.
It’s been said many times before but there is something quite sinister about the clown attire, which when executed right, will scare audiences.
Rachel Gross’ short Clown takes a scaled-back approach, focusing on the titular clown and someone simply walking to their car.
This being Halloween night, there could be something more supernatural in the air. Gross gives her clown the air of Michael Myers, with expert teleportation skills.
Everything isn’t what it seems though, and Gross cleverly flips the narrative, concluding on a darkly comedic note.
This was a lot of fun.
Clown screens as part of Bite Night Film Festival 2023.
