I’ve heard of plenty of incidences in the horror genre but not of a person being held hostage by a bird.
So, Lauren Andrews’ short film certainly gets points for originality.
After beginning with a schlocky news report, we backtrack 1 week and piece together how this situation made the local news.
A lady who is between jobs, takes a job looking after another woman’s apartment, and gets more than she bargained for. With no wi-fi, no cable TV, you’d think that would be her biggest issues, but then there’s Reggie…
The chain-smoking bird looks at death’s door, but she is warned to keep him in the cage as he’s havoc once he’s let out. Reggie is also foul-mouthed but finds his way out and chaos ensues.
Who knew birds have dodgy connections who will take out someone at the right squark. In terms of world building, Bird Hostage has to be commended.
More of a satire than a horror tale, but Bird Hostage is a short, and snappy good time.
Bird Hostage screens as part of Toronto After Dark Film Festival 2023.
