666 (Toronto After Dark Film Fest) review

During the time of the Satanic Panic of the 1980s, it’s hard to believe that people went along with what they were being told about supposed ‘devil worshippers’.

From sacrificing animals and the abuse of children, plenty was fabricated to turn society against people who maybe didn’t go to church every Sunday.

In Abby Falvo’s short 666, we get a glimpse of these supposed rituals but presented as more of a Laurel and Hardy-style sketch.

Shot in black and white, this feels almost like surveillance footage of the Satanists, summoning their demons. These aren’t your average worshippers though, they have a Satanist telephone!

If you can appreciate the dark humour on show, 666 is a perfect slice of horror.

666 screens as part of the Toronto After Dark Film Festival 2023.
