Oddities (Grimmfest 2023) review

Working in the antiques industry is a very particular sort of career.

I suppose like someone who is an undertaker, you could be born into this industry or simply get involved in it by happenstance.

In Oddities, we follow a dealer and a junkie camp outside an antique shop, aiming to bag an extremely expensive item with a five finger discount.

What they hadn’t bank on was, first the antique dealer is horror royalty Adrienne Barbeau and secondly, that she may be more intuitive to the situation than they gave her credit for

This unholy alliance are chaotic to begin with, so when talk starts on how to complete this hit job, they can’t do it clean or agree on how to do it without getting caught.

An antique shop, even in broad daylight is a great setting for a horror film, simply because anything in the background could be deemed a threat to anyone who enters. Let’s not forget the Friday the 13th TV series was borne out of such a premise.

Tyler Savage’s script is razor sharp and all the performances are on point, creating an entertaining yarn well worth your time.

Oddities screens as part of Grimmfest 2023.
