The Perfect Place To Cry review

There is just something creepy about older songs playing during horror films.

Whether it’s the start of You’re Next or The X Files’ controversial ‘Home’ episode which had a bunch of cannibals preying on the locals, accompanied by Wonderful, Wonderful by Johnny Mathis.

I say this because Shane Bannon’s short The Perfect Place to Cry opens with a car slowly making its way to the tune of Unchained Melody.

Our driver has pulled up for a cigarette and starts to crying, clearly upset about something. The hairs must have stood up slightly on her neck, when she sees a light moving not too far away in the trees – a red flag in any situation.

Things don’t get any better, and The Perfect Place to Cry quickly becomes a fight for survival, when all she wanted was some time to cry in peace.

Bannon’s short is a real nerve shredder with little to no dialogue, which only enhances the sequences.

The ambiguity around all the dual narratives only makes the film more engrossing.

The Perfect Place to Cry is chilling, haunting and oddly touching.

Look for the film on the Alter YouTube channel soon.
