Murdercise review

You kind of know what kind of movie you are in for in the opening seconds of Murdercise; where we see an amply bosomed lady showering.

Said lady is part of a group who are looking to be the leading part of a sleazy workout video. It is clear that Murdercise’s DNA recalls such schlocky 80s favourites like Death Spa and Killer Workout but given the passage of time and witty script, it largely gets away being an entertaining yarn.

Each girl has a unique look, with their own cheesy intros fast becoming their personalities, although this doesn’t save them when a killer starts bumping them off one by one.

On the opposite side the standout of the men is Drew Marvick’s extremely funny Chuck, who is probably more desperate than the girls to be part of this video.

Just when you think this is standard slasher stuff, Murdercise throws us a curveball that will make or break it for many; and you will know what I’m talking about when you see it.

Given its indie horror crowdfunded production, filmmakers Angelica De Alba and Paul Ragsdale make the most of their budget, and really let the blood flow for the kills.

Murdercise is exactly what you expect from a low budget 80s throwback slasher, but given its in on the joke, it only becomes more endearing than some of the films it is paying homage to.

Murdercise is available to stream now on Amazon Prime.
