Babies can elicit strange behaviour and it can simply be brushed off as something they will grow out of. Whether it’s sucking their thumbs or eating dirt, but what if a grown up starts with a random obsession, say eating flies?
This is the initial premise of Celine Cotran’s short Legs, which screens as part of the HollyShorts Film Festival lineup.
We follow couple Joy and Harry, who are expecting their first child, but Joy has developed a taste for the winged bugs after swallowing a spider in her sleep. Immediately, this could be triggering for some who have read the stats on how many stats a person can unknowingly swallow in their sleep…
Cotran’s short leans into body horror with obvious references to something like The Fly, given Joy’s new favourite dish. Joy’s stress over her pregnancy is only magnified by the second inhabitant in her body.
Legs has a devilish side of humour which lightens what could be a truly horrific scenario, with Joy’s maternal instincts taking over for her spider guest as well as her baby.
