The zombie apocalypse has been done aplenty over the past decade, to the point of oversaturation.
For those of us that got fatigued with The Walking Dead, there were always some diamonds in the rough such as It Stains the Sands Red. So we come to the horror short La Soif, which follows the journey of a father who still holds out hope of seeing his daughter again, despite her being missing for five days.
When she does turn up on his doorstep he is naturally suspicious of how she survived.
La Soif, translated as The Thirst quickly becomes a home invasion horror, but with the added threat of zombies.
This is definitely a sobering watch, capturing a nihilism only an apocalypse could manifest.
La Soif screened as part of Fantasia Fest 2023.
