Motion Detected review

I must admit I was quite enamoured when Scream 2022 used mobile technology as part of its updating of the Ghostface killer.

A similar method is employed in horror thriller Motion Detected, but in this case the concept is stretched across an entire feature.

We follow Eva, who is recovering from am attack in her home by an intruder who went on to murder several other people. Her and her husband move from Mexico to L.A and utilise a new security system called Diablo.

After said husband goes away on a business trip the tech starts to malfunction and Eva starts to think the demon of her past is back to get her.

On paper the concept for Motion Detected is quite intriguing, using methods employed in the Paranormal Activity whilst also exploiting mobile technology.

The results are mixed, with the concept being better than the execution.

It just felt like there wasn’t any surprises here and a severe lack of tension for what should be a nerve-shredding home invasion feature.

Motion Detected is very much a one-time and done feature, with not much to draw viewers back for seconds.

Motion Detected is released on 19 May from Freestyle Digital Media.
