A Sickness review

My first thought while watching the opening of Guy Soulsby’s A Sickness, was – I hope he’s got a permit for that as we see a character burning possessions in a trash can.

This of course isn’t the point of this short and just me being a bit too environmentally conscious whilst watching.

There is clearly something underneath the surface of this character study, as we see this middle-aged man going about mundane tasks like showering and flossing. Not to be too stereotypical, but he does have the serial killer look about him.

The film does seem to be playing off a stereotype though when it’s revealed what this man is all about, as on the flipside he calmly eats his tea whilst watching The Driller Killer.

Things aren’t what they initially appear though, and we are left to question the motives behind the crimes taking place here.

A Sickness is well-shot and offers something different to your standard serial killer character study.
