Filmmakers all over the world know the pain of rejection.
With a plethora of film festivals now available to all kinds of films, there are some that just don’t make the cut; but how do you deal with that rejection?
And so we come to Sean Wainsteim’s meta short Demon Box, which is described as an autobiographical film that kept on getting shut out from festivals.
The film is sprinkled with oddball humour, as we navigate Sean’s avatar for the story, describing his unorthodox family dynamic.
Given the titular demon box has links to the Nazis and World War II, there is always a fine line to tread, before descending into darkness.
Demon Box is also visually strikingly with some truly bizarre imagery that you may have double take, employing a sort of nightmare logic in some cases.
There is also a warmth and sincerity within Demon Box, which also feels raw and unfiltered.
Demon Box feels original and personal in a way some horror can’t be. An engrossing watch.
Demon Box screens as part of Salem Horror Fest 2023.
