Entries are now open for the Queer Screams LGBTQ+ Genre Film Festival, which takes place from 18-20 August 2023.
QUEER SCREAMS FILM FESTIVAL is an “in-person” live festival event, dedicated to celebrating LGBTQ+ genre cinema from emerging and established queer artists within the community – locally, nationally and internationally.
The festival supports LGTBQ+ Artists and Creators of queer stories by providing a platform to reach a larger audience. To present opportunities to connect with LGBTQ+ horror/sci-fi/fantasy/thriller fans through film screenings, as well as personal interaction. To contribute to an evergrowing community of genre film lovers by engaging in “the conversation” and the pursuit of positive queer representation in media. To have a “gay old time”.
QSFF will be held at the Clinton Street Theater on August 18th – 20th, 2023 in Portland, OR. The festival will present live film screenings, a filmmaker’s Q&A, a special event screening, drag and burlesque performances, an award ceremony brunch, panel discussions, networking opportunities and special guests.
Visiting filmmakers and festivalgoers can expect to experience the beauty and awesomeness of Portland, OR. Portland is best known for being a sustainability-minded, bike-friendly city with easy access to nature, plentiful coffee, art, craft beer and delicious food. And of course, its slogan “Keep Portland Weird.” The Clinton Street Theater is one of the oldest operating movie houses in the United States. Famous for its long-standing exhibition of the Rocky Horror Picture Show, the theatre is currently a magnet for independent/revival films, live music, theatre productions, dance performances, sex-positive theatre & film, drag shows, comedy, burlesque and more.
QSFF is one of the few film festivals dedicated to “Queer Horror”. Queer horror cinema is finally coming out of the shadows and into the light, particularly due to docu-series like “Queer For Fear” on Shudder. Now is the perfect time to celebrate LGBTQ+ genre cinema. And it’s QSFF’s goal to do just that! If you are an LGBTQ+ filmmaker or have made a film containing at least one MAIN character who identifies as LGBTQ+, they want to see your movie!
