Variations on a Theme (Overlook Film Fest) review

Science experiments in horror that involve cloning usually yield interesting and often horrifying results.

In Peter Collins Campbell’s short Variations on a Theme we explore the idea of split yourself into different pieces, in this case having multiple clones of yourself.

The basis of the experiment is a little foggy but the initial conclusion is that they have done it to try to find more interesting versions of themselves.

But what happens when a variation of them infiltrates and looks to become the alpha?

This is high-concept horror at its finest, that boasts one outstanding and gooey sequence that would feel at home in a Cronenberg (David or Brandon) film.

Fans of films such as The Infinite Fifteen Minutes will find plenty to admire here.

Variations On A Theme screens as part of the Overlook Film Festival 2023.
