Caring for a sick relative is a task which can require the patience of a saint and also truckloads of empathy.
We follow a daughter caring for her sick mother, who while working outdoors sees what looks like pink meteorites falling from the sky.
When going to investigate the crash site, she stumbles upon an alien being – but are they here to help or harm us?
After one of the bodies appears to show healing powers she brings it to her mother’s bedside; could this be the cure to their problems?
Samantha Aldana’s short is beautifully shot and does well to build up tension whilst keeping our alien visitors largely in the shadows, adding to their mystique. Angels also asks question around the lengths we will go to, to make our family well and stay alive.
Angels only adds to the case that we need more stories about extra terrestrials and other lifeforms.
Angels screens as part of the Overlook Film Festival 2023.
