It’s probably worth mentioning going in that Swedish filmmaker Carolina Sandvik is getting well-known in indie horror circles for her animation work.
In her latest short Dew Claws, we follow a man clearly planning on being in the best shape possible as he lies on a sunbed before doing situps to ensure his ab game is strong; but what’s this all in aid of?
It turns out this preparation is all in readiness for the next full moon but while you may think you know where Dew Claws is going, guess again as Sandvik has some aces up her sleeve.
The animation work here is truly stellar with a fluid transformation scene that puts the CGI mess’ we see today frequently to shame.
Admittedly its conclusion is a bit of head scratcher, but perhaps this will be open to interpretation or maybe that was the point.
