Voices (Monsters in Film Festival 2023) review

Moving into a new home, especially if it’s your first home with someone else, can be scary and exciting.

It is always best to do your homework, as the couple in Abbie Lucas’ Voices come to find that they have noisy neighbours.

As the argument starts to get heated, they mull over whether to pop around to see if everything is okay.

Voices is sprinkled with some very up-to-date commentary on the treatment of women, domestic violence and the law’s response to claims of both.

We start to see chinks in the couple’s armour as things get very strange, and they start to snipe at each other about matters that have clearly been bumbling under the surface for some time.

Voices has some fantastic black comedy too with two fantastic performances from Amanda Clapham and Omar Khan.

Definitely one to look out for.

Voices screens as part of Monsters in Film Festival 2023.
