I’m sure all the parents reading this can relate to a child who just won’t go to bed.
This is what starts as the premise of Nikki Taylor-Roberts’ short Go To Bed, Raymond!
A young boy wakes up his father, claiming that there are intruders in his room, and despite his father believing it’s a figment of his imagination he goes to check it out.
You get the feeling from the film’s title and this initial incident that this isn’t the first time these sort of claims have been made.
Go To Bed, Raymond! proves that some dialogue that could prove hammy coming from adults, that given the right setting can be bone-chilling when delivered by a child.
While you may feel like this is a standard ghost/poltergeist story, Taylor-Roberts’ short is much adept and sinister. Another element worth mentioning is the incredible sound design of the film, which really adds a sinister layer to almost every scene.
Go To Bed, Raymond! will hit extra hard on parents but is also a twisted and engrossing idea with some striking visuals.
Go To Bed, Raymond! screens as part of the Overlook Film Festival.
