Bestia review

The relationship man and dog is one as old as time, but has it been shown on screen before quite like Hugo Covarrubias’ short Bestia?

The film explores the life of a secret police agent during the dictatorship rule in Chile, and how the stresses of her life manifest during this time.

While you cannot deny the political commentary, this is ultimately about finding her humanity via her relationship with her furry best friend.

We see in her dreams the dark visions this reality is giving her, and this starts to seep into her real life. Bestia is a stylish, yet grainy animated character study, with an oddly engrossing style.

Covarrubias employs some dystopian shots that wouldn’t feel out of place in a David Lynch film, employing arresting shots to showcase a breakdown.

Bestia is quite the feat and demands your attention.
