It’s never a good idea to mess with statues, especially in secluded locations.
If only the group of teens in Jonas Trukanas’ Pensive had taken this sort of advice, they may not have been carved up like livestock.
We follow Marius and his fellow graduates as they journey out to a cabin, but come across some mysterious wooden statues which in their infinite wisdom use as firewood.
Following this, they are hunted by a hulking masked man who absolutely brutalise them using a hatchet.
Pensive feels like a different kind of slasher, really zeroing in on its mythology as we try to figure out the origin of the killer but also what’s so special about the statues.
Marius himself is not the most charismatic lead but this is deliberate and bleeds into the story too.
Slasher fans will definitely find something to like with Pensive, with its gory kills plus a story that feels fresh.
Pensive screens as part of Glasgow Frightest 2023.
