Found footage social media horror is fast becoming its own sub-genre, with films such as Unfriended, Deadstream and Dashcam all released in recent years.
Enter #chadgetstheaxe, which is born out of a short film from 2019 of the same name.
Here we follow titular Chad, plus other insufferable streamers Spicy Steve and Spennifer aka Jennifer and Spencer as they join streams to go for an excursion at Devil’s Manor. What could go wrong??
Oh, I forgot to mention that Devil’s Manor was allegedly formerly the home of an evil cult…
Once we get past the poking fun at the whole streaming culture and our hosts and get down to the scares, #Chadgetstheaxe conjures up a decent amount of scares.
While there is nothing that makes this stand out from its predecessors, this is certainly funny and at times quite chilling.
Much the same as Dashcam, it puts on the side of someone we may not usually align with in horror films, but arguably does it more effectively.
If you are a fan of the found footage sub genre, there is plenty to enjoy here.
