Your Last Summer review

We’ve had fan films for the Friday the 13th, Halloween and Elm Street series’ so why not add I Know What You Did Last Summer to that list.

This fan film from director Mark J. Parker, will have more attention due to the recent news that the series could be revived with original survivors Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. ready for one more round with Ben Willis.

But where does Parker’s story fit into the narrative?

Firstly, the story is given a queer perspective as we meet Jesse and Hank, who becomes threatened when someone sends a note (very 90s) to expose their secret love affair.

One of the boys lives in the former home of Julie James, one of the only survivors of the fisherman massacre of 1997.

Parker sprinkles his story with easter eggs for Last Summer fans, whilst also trying to create a brand new chapter of this story.

Ben Willis at this point has become an urban legend, with the teens firmly believing he is long gone, never to return, oh so naive…

After laying the groundwork Your Last Summer shifts gear in its final five minutes with our group finding out that Willis is more than an urban legend.

This short shows there’s plenty of mileage left in this story, with plenty of possibilities for its inevitable requel.
