It’s always a bit of a balancing act to narratives that involve parts of history most would largely want to forget; such as Nazism.
In Farnoosh Abedi’s short The Sprayer we see a futuristic version of what that could have looked like if the results of the Second World War ended differently.
This is Abedi’s follow-up to the superb Malakout, which was screened at the virtual Bloody Flicks Awards in 2021.
First things first though; The Sprayer is a beautifully shot animated short, with a pounding score to rival most big-screen epics.
We follow a group of soldiers sent into a war-shocked town with the aim, we think, to eradicate whoever is left from the previous bombings.
The film seems to have some underlying messaging regarding protecting the environment and what the titular sprayer actually is.
Its futuristic, its steampunk and gives the viewer plenty to ponder.
