Friend of the World review

What would you do if you are trapped in the zombie apocalypse with one of the people you truly despite?

This is part of the premise of the stylish and oddly intriguing Friend of the World, which is available from Troma through Apple TV.

We follow Diane, who wakes up to a room full of dead people, and after checking her surroundings decides its best to get the hell out.

She is accosted by military man Gore, the pure antithesis of her, and the odd couple look to navigate their way through this new and twisted world.

The practical effects here are truly fantastic, with callbacks to body horror such as Society and strangely don’t feel out of place in this scenario.

At a lean 50 minutes, Friend of the World doesn’t hang around and packs a lot in, brimming with creativity and ideas. Filming in black and white feels like a deliberate choice and really helps capture the apocalyptic feel of the film.

Conclusively, Friend of the World doesn’t feel like the usual bag from Troma, and is certainly a fascinating watch.

Friend of the World is available now on Apple TV.
