Fredheads review

It’s been a labour of love but the fan documentary Fredheads is finally being released by Bayview Entertainment.

The brainchild of Paige Troxell and Kim Gunzinger, this is more of an exploration of fandom rather than a deep dive into Elm Street, which has comprehensively been covered in Never Sleep Again.

Here we look at each of the creative team’s journeys with the Elm Street series, from initial introductions, how it informed their lives and how the series has helped them create their own fan family.

While it can feel at times, quite one note, Fredheads is extremely heartfelt and you will get sucked into this world and by the time the credits roll you feel like you have become one of the Fredheads.

We do get minor cameos from stars of the series, but instead of being a talking head, they are used to discuss how fandom has changed and how the horror community has grown in the ages of the internet and social media. There is also a feature on the role of cosplayers too, with a fascinating segment on one fan who goes all in on being Freddy Krueger for conventions.

Fredheads is quite substantial at around 2 hours and 10 minutes but as Elm Street fans you will find so much in common, it will almost make you wish the next horror convention was tomorrow.

This documentary is very fun by the fans for the fans.
