Earlier this week we heard the news that I Know What You Did Last Summer was getting the requel treatment.
While its unclear whether the two sequels will be completely ignored, it was revealed that original stars Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. are in talks to return.
The hope of another Last Summer movie was ignited last year when Freddie Prinze Jr. tweeted about wanting to do another horror film since being in the original (presumably he forgot about the sequel a year later).
When it comes to I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, the only hanging thread is bringing back Karla, played by Brandy. Given her positive reaction amongst many horror fans, perhaps a minor cameo wouldn’t go amiss…
James Wan was involved in a short-lived reboot streaming series last year for Amazon, but despite initially warm reviews the show was cancelled shortly after debuting.
But what can we expect from Last Summer in 2024? Presumably, the film will take place in Southport and if both our leads are involved, they will surely be passing the baton to a new generation that is set to battle Ben Willis.
Could it be Julie and Ray’s kids who are part of a new group targeted by the hook?
Maybe Willis was never found after disappearing into the sea at the close of the original film and an incident in Julie and Ray’s lives brings him back for more bloodshed.
The other original cast member that could return is Muse Watson as killer fisherman Ben Willis, who could still swing his hook at the age of 74. Could the Last Summer series have a similar approach to the recent Halloween trilogy and have aged Willis return to Southport.
Whatever happens, it is certainly exciting to be returning to the I Know What You Did Last Summer series and this will of course open the door to more 90s horror revivals for properties such as Urban Legend (which previously announced a remake which was cancelled last year).
