You may think getting to a third entry of the In Search of Darkness series, that we would be getting the leftovers and outtakes to fill the runtime…
Well, the run time is over 5 and a half hours, and nothing feels like filler.
Once again we delve into the 80s but this time we explore some more obscure, some cult and other bizarre films released during the golden decade.
There is focus pieces of Adrienne Barbeau and Dee Wallace, plus a truly fantastic segment around Asian horror in a world pre-dating Ring and The Grudge.
The doc makers also get bonus points for a segment on Jaws: The Revenge, including Lance Guest, clearly tongue firmly in cheek trying to defend the cult classic (which yours truly wrote a book on).
In Search of Darkness III is an easy recommendation and to make things easier it’s streaming on Shudder.
It did take me three sittings to get through but this is because there is so much to devour and digest.
So sit back, and get prepared for the final chapter of this epic series. It will be fascinating to see how their 90s horror documentary turns out.
In Search of Darkness III is now streaming on Shudder.
