Down and Out in Vampire Hills review

Craig Railsback’s horror comedy short Down and Out in Vampire Hills, sees a vampire and her intellectual decide to go out and explore the world.

Starting in a homeless camp, vamp Queen Penelope and Harold, venture out into…dog walking in an attempt to get more victims.

Vampire Hills is clearly played more for laughs than scares, with a dominant performance from Dawna Lee Heising, who has to date over 150 films to her credit.

Railsback sprinkles the story with plenty of topical references, which will either make it more relatable or instantly date it depending on the viewer. It does work in a sort of surreal way, that solely commits to its own style, it just feels strange that it mostly plays out in broad daylight for the most part.

This sort of vampire comedy feels born out of the success of What We Do In The Shadows, and while it doesn’t hit those heights it will certainly gain a solid audience.
