Red X by David Demchuk review

Wrapped up between a multi-decade supernatural and queer mystery tale, Red X is one of the most original and immersive reads of the past 12 months.

Author David Demchuk creates such a detailed experience of this Canadian chiller, you feel like you know the streets of Toronto, without even setting foot there.

Demchuk provides a series of queer protagonists who disappear after a chance encounter with a mysterious being. Is this a serial killer hunting gay people or something more outlandish.

For large chunks, you will wonder where Red X is heading but its okay, Demchuk knows where we are heading and you won’t be able to predict it as the chapters fly by.

There is also plenty of cultural context to many of the chapters, as we navigate the AIDS crisis plus the changing and evolving gay scene of Canada through the decades.

If you are looking for something fresh, dark and at times chilling, Red X is well worth your time.

Red X by David Demchuk is available now in paperback.
