Kiddo (2023) review

Brett Chapman’s latest short Kiddo is not for the faint of heart.

Focusing on the titular character, a middle-aged woman who is part of shall we say, a close-knit family.

To say the film deals with big swings would be an understatement, given the truly shocking imagery on show at times.

Chapman likes to dig a little deeper and get up close and personal, in that uncomfortable personal space of his characters. The mise-en-scene is stripped back and dour, really hitting home the dark tone of the film.

Remember there is horror in what you see and what you don’t.
