We’ve all watched our fair share of YouTubers at this stage.
Some are insightful and genuine and then there’s people like Shawn from Shudder’s Deadstream.
Annoying, crass and probably a host of other deplorable qualities make up this streamer who sets out to conquer a haunted house in his latest challenge.
Once you get past his annoying nature, Deadstream is actually quite a lot of fun and like many reviews already have stated; this feels like Evil Dead for Gen Z.
Some of the twists can be telegraphed quite easily, but when the story stops being a live stream and becomes more nightmarish, the film really finds its stride.
The comedy of the affair lies in the mocking of Shawn, a man so vein and crass, he created his own ‘missing’ t-shirts and was selling them before the show really got started.
Like so many of these type of films, this is about Shawn finding himself and looking to change the error of his ways whilst also escaping a host of gooey supernatural beings.
Credit must also got to the special effects team who knocking out of the park with some fantastic monsters that Raimi and co would be proud of.
Deadstream won’t be shooting straight into my best of 2022 list, but it is certainly worth streaming, just grab some popcorn and drinks and enjoy the ride!
Deadstream is now streaming on Shudder.
