It seems we have been spoilt with riches this year with holiday or Christmas horror.
While we will have great with the likes of Christmas Bloody Christmas, we will also get the likes of Nutcracker Massacre.
Ultimately, this is an example of a film being sold based on its title alone, but sadly that is probably the only highlight. The main issue is pacing, as things never get out of second gear, with one exposition dump which lasts around 15 minutes of an 87-minute film.
In a nutshell, the titular Nutcracker is inhabited by the spirit of a German soldier with a penchant for bloodshed. Having said this, as the film is called Massacre, by the 50-minute mark only two people have actually been offed.
The film does have one great kill though, which really does deliver on the Nutcracker part of the title, if you catch my drift.
The sad thing is that Nutcracker Massacre plays it too straight, and if it leaned into its absurdity more, it would have been a more entertaining ride.
Nutcracker Massacre is released on digital platforms on 12 December 2022.
