The Wilds (Soho Horror Film Festival)

You just know its bad news when you wake up covered in blood in the middle of the forest, not knowing how you got there…

In Greig Johnson’s short The Wilds, we explore the relationship between estranged siblings Anna and her rather off-the-rails sibling Graham.

When their mother asks Anna to come to her home before sundown, you certainly get the impression something is amiss.

The Wilds doesn’t play coy with its themes and goes straight for the jugular with some oddball humour to boot.

Graham has never really grown up, and his attachment to his mother obviously leans into queer themes plus the fact Anna is part of a same-sex couple whose mother doesn’t fully understand her sexuality.

We also explore the themes of addiction and off-kilter interventions, with some delightfully weird scenes.

The Wilds has plenty of heart and is unapologetically weird and feels all the better for it.

The Wilds plays as part of Soho Horror Film Festival 2022.
