The Many Unanswered Questions of the new Halloween trilogy

David Gordon Green’s Halloween trilogy has concluded with the final chapter, Halloween Ends released this past weekend.

While the current film, unlike any since Season of the Witch has polarised fans, the other two films also posed plenty of questions that remain unanswered.

Here is a rundown of our top picks –

Who caused the bus crash?

While it is assumed that Dr Sartain instigated the bus crash for Michael’s escape in Halloween 2018, this is never confirmed. Another theory was that Laurie herself ran the bus off the road to get Michael back out in the wild and hunt him down herself.

Who is Karen’s father?

It is heavily implied during Halloween Kills that Hawkins could have been Karen’s absent father, until Laurie is told they never got that far, many years ago in a local bar. Frank mentions she was still sweet on Ben Tramer, but other than that reference, Tramer isn’t mentioned or featured again.

Was Hawkins destined to take Michael down?

Given the flashbacks in Halloween Kills, it feels like Gordon Green and co. were building towards the ultimate redemption for Frank Hawkins, given he stopped Michael being executed by Loomis in 1978 at the Myers House.

This plot thread was completely disregarded in Halloween Ends, with Hawkins playing a bit-part role at best.

How is Sheriff Barker still in a job?

Either the local government are taking a bung or no one wants to be Sheriff in Haddonfield post-2018, because given the massacre that occurred on Barker’s watch, how is he still in a job?

Quite possibly the most wasted character in this trilogy, as he offers next to nothing in terms of control, and features in Ends for literally one minute to oversee the procession of Myers’ corpse to the junkyard.

How did Sondra survive?

Laurie’s next door neighbour and resident graveyard worker Sondra was attacked shortly after the Shape’s escape from Laurie’s burning house in Halloween Kills.

After being impaled in the neck with a light tube, she is left to bleed out as Michael creates a bloody tableau on her husband using their knife collection.

The question is; did the police arrive shortly after and stem the bleeding or did she manage to get to Haddonfield Memorial before all hell broke loose?

Either way Sondra shows up in Halloween Ends, now paralysed and unable to speak after her attack, with her sister accosting Laurie Strode at the supermarket for her part in the 2018 massacre.

Why does Michael stare out of the window?

Right from the flashbacks in Halloween Kills, a big deal is made of Michael just staring out of his sister’s bedroom window. Something we also see twice in the present day later on, after he kills Big John and after he kills Karen at the close of the film.

Wild theories were swirled around about him gaining strength from the house itself and even from killing (which is carried on in Ends). This is another plot thread that felt important but was quickly dropped in Halloween Ends. Given the Myers house was destroyed, I guess it’s not the same staring out of his sewer cave.

Was the homeless man’s death an accident?

After Corey escapes Michael’s sewer cave he has an encounter with the local homeless person who asks why he was let go whereas others were killed or never came out of the sewer.

They get into quite a tussle and the homeless man is stabbed with his own blade. Was this just an accident or was it Corey’s inner darkness starting to manifest?

Should Corey have survived?

Given how definitively The Shape is destroyed in Halloween Ends, would it have made sense for the franchise for Corey to escape into the night?

After being shot by Laurie he unexpectedly stabs himself in the neck before the Shape finishes him off. To leave the door slightly ajar, and potentially tell new stories with Corey as the killer, would it have been too bold for him to disappear just like Michael did in 1978?
