The Harbinger (Grimmfest 2022) review

Returning to Grimmfest following the critically acclaimed The Witch in the Window, Andy Mitton has returned with another supernatural chiller in the form of The Harbinger.

This time around Mitton tackles if and how dreams or more specifically, nightmares can be infectious in a pandemic world.

While there hasn’t been too many pandemic horrors yet, Mitton decides to pitch The Harbinger in the height of the pandemic, which also adds a layer of tension and scar tissue to proceedings.

The idea that this titular demon will erase its victims from history, chipping away at them piece by piece before moving on to the next person. It is a haunting premise, which carries plenty of bizarre and chilling sequences.

Again Mitton’s strength is in his characters, and we really get to feel the scale of this issue whilst feeling like these are everyday people in a crazy scenario.

While it doesn’t quite hit the heights of The Witch in the Window, The Harbinger continues the filmmaker’s excellent run.

The Harbinger plays as part of Grimmfest 2022.
