Moon Garden (Grimmfest 2022) review

It is hard being a child who’s parents fight all the time. You never understand why, and how you can help.

When a young girl gets too involved in one of her parents spats, she is knocked unconscious and her vivid imagination takes her to some dark places.

The first thing to say is how expansive and stunning Moon Garden is. This is a film that you can hang frames of on your wall.

While pitched as a 12A, this has some genuinely unnerving creations that would make a David Lynch or David Cronenberg proud.

It follows nightmare logic so don’t be expecting everything to add up, just enjoy the ride through the haunting fairytale of the little girl’s mind.

While the ending is ambiguous, its child-like narrative structure will draw you in and immerse you in this world.

Moon Garden is one of the best looking films you will see on screen all year.

Moon Garden plays as part of Grimmfest 2022.
