House of Darkness (Grimmfest 2022) review

A man gets more than he bargained for, when he meets a young lady at the local bar and is taken to her mysterious gothic mansion.

It seems like a fairly linear plot, but you can’t prepare yourself for how dull House of Darkness is.

At a shade under 90 minutes, the film ultimately never really hits stride until its final 10 minutes, and by then you will most likely have mentally checked out.

We do get hints at the wider endgame, but again it just feels like the filmmakers are stretching out the plot to fill a certain runtime.

Many will recognise Justin Long from his turn in Jeepers Creepers, but sadly he gets next to nothing to do and his character has zero inner monologues and thus becomes very annoying very fast. By the end you are just hoping he gets some sort of slaying.

The gothic setting is barely exploited to, its almost as if they didn’t know what they had in the settings and the actors.

I can safely say this is the worst feature on offer at Grimmfest this year.

House of Darkness plays as part of Grimmfest 2022.
