Final Cut (Grimmfest 2022) review

Out of nowhere we have the French remake of the soon-to-be cult classic One Cut of the Dead.

Although this may feel like a shot for shot reboot, the difference here is that the filmmakers are in on the joke.

Whether this works or not will depend on your tastes, but it does offers up plenty of different jokes, occasionally around the same scenes – to begin with anyway.

Final Cut is more of a meta experience than One Cut of the Dead, but it does feel like regurgitation at times rather than homage.

We have social commentary around making a remake of a foreign hit, with some of the crew believing it is beneath, which is the reason for some of their diva behaviour on-set.

While a pleasant experience Final Cut will only drive more towards rewatching One Cut of the Dead instead of this a second time around.

Final Cut plays as part of Grimmfest 2022.
