Pop Up Puppet Cinema review (Paracinema Film Festival)

Punch and Judy style puppet cinema at a film festival? It shouldn’t work but it really does.

Presented by Pop Up Puppet Cinema, audiences at Paracinema Film Festival in Derby were treated to 2 performances across the day.

First up was a satirical look at Back to the Future, which had the audience howling with laughter. Their scripts are razor sharp, clever and make so much of the concept. This will have you looking at the classic Michael J. Fox film in a whole new way.

The second performance of the day was Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street, which was transformed into a musical based around the songs of Queen.

We get topical jokes around Johnny Depp, plus loads of Queen covers with a Nightmare tinge.

Pop Up Puppet Cinema also had a surprise for viewers at the end, that promises the types of shows and characters they are taking aim at very soon.

Highly recommended for any event.
