Speak No Evil review

Disclaimer before we get into this; Speak No Evil has made me really uncomfortable.

While plenty of horror films promise, terror and distress, usually the hype is not wholly justified; especially in the social media age.

I think I’m fairly confident in saying that Speak No Evil is worth the hype.

We follow a married couple who befriend another family from Holland, who proceed to invite to their home to stay for a few days.

The more the trip lasts, the weirder things become and you just get the feeling that something is quite off here.

Firstly, I’d say Speak No Evil looks incredible and really takes full advantage of its rural backdrop and gives our characters little hope of escape once things get a bit dark.

There is such an atmosphere to how it’s shot, with the surroundings, almost feeling like a performance on their own.

It goes to places I have never seen on film before, whether that makes my viewing standards slightly tamer or they really pushed the envelope – well you can be a judge on.

There are so many stressful moments, that even as a non-parent I found truly intense but for people who have children this could hit you on a whole new level.

Horror is meant to scare, disturb and leave scars, and its safe to say Speak No Evil ticks all of these boxes,

Easily one of the most disturbing and engrossing horrors of 2022.

Speak No Evil is now streaming on Shudder.
