Sometimes a film comes along that is so suitably bonkers that you just have to roll with the punches.
Glorious sees us follow a young man, Wes (Ryan Kwanten) dealing with a messy breakup, who ends up encountering a mysterious figure in a rest stop.
This may sound sinister but it quickly becomes quite bizarre yet thoroughly engrossing.
Kwanten, who many will recognise from his turn in True Blood has the lovable goofball personality nailed down.
I didn’t expect Glorious to get so cosmic and given its seemingly restrained theme on the surface, it really opens up and plays with some big ideas.
Clearly, the budget is limited but director Rebekah McKendry does not waste a penny and creates such a tight and original horror.
Glorious makes full use of its grimy location, with plenty of blood, slime and dirt.
The contained location really works and plus there are some laughs to offset the sheer insanity. I will warn there are certain choices late on that may not work for everyone, but for me only enhance the story and make it hit much harder than expected.
Glorious might just be one of the most original horror films of 2022 so far.
Glorious is streaming now on Shudder.
