Right from the outset of The Changed, director Michael Mongillo’s there is a real atmosphere creeping beneath the surface.
Taking cues from films such as Invasion of the Body Snatchers with its central theme of ordinary people being replaced by ‘changed’ people.
While this is kept fairly vague in the outset, you get the feeling this has a whiff of politicism, with the changed people lacking the moral compass – basically it feels like they were plucked from the Trump administration.
The Changed constantly skirts around the paranoia of the ‘ordinary people’ which could ultimately be their undoing. Trapped in a house with Bill (Tony Todd), a group of ordinaries start to question their own existences and if giving in to the ‘changed’ will help.
The Changed ultimately goes for mood over spectacle, offering a slow burn quality which makes for a sobering watch that will resonates with many in the pandemic era.
The Changed screened as part of Arrow Video Frightfest 2021.

This sounds pretty good. I didn’t get to go to FrightFest, but watched the digital version. Didn’t see this one was available online.
